Caulfeild Community Outreach

At Caulfeild, we place great importance on giving back to the community. We realize how fortunate we are living in West Vancouver and greatly appreciate the wonderful school environment that our children are privileged to attend. We truly have a strong sense of community at our school and one of the many ways that this is shown is by the parents’ commitment to “give back” and we do that in many ways…..

BUILDING SCHOOLS IN AFRICA
As you all know, we recently raised over $26,000 to build a school in RWANDA with the help of UNICEF as well as an addition to a school in Ruhengeri, Rwanda (a rural area close to the Congolese border) with the help of LITTLE FEET. We started off with a 3-day school wide Conference on Africa which featured workshops with African musicians and dancers, storytelling, arts, writing, geography and language studies. This was a great way to immerse the students into Africa culture. A few weeks later, the children participated in their fundraiser, a “Water Walk” whereby they experienced what it would be like to have to walk for a water supply. The children walked to Stearman Beach where they filled their buckets of water and then walked back to the school. With the pledges they collected from this walk, they were able to build the above.

LITTLE FEET – Sharon Ferriss-Smeaton, a parent at our school, is the founder of this organization. Sharon says, “I have wanted to work with children since I was 4 years old. The dream never left and finally, after a trip to Africa in 2006, Little Feet was born. It is my belief that by educating and working with children around the world we are helping to build a safer and better future for all of us. Teaching peace, harmony and unity will change the world. Little Feet’s mission is to work on children’s projects around the world. I sincerely thank my family, friends and acquaintances that join in this dream. Thank you for your generosity.

At the beginning of 2006 “Little Feet” raised funds to build a kindergarten onto an existing preschool and now thanks to the support and enthusiasm from our community we are able to add a Grade 1 and 2 class as well as provide 2 teachers, 2 teachers’ aides, supplies, sponsorship of many more children who would not be able to attend school if not for your generous donations, furniture for the school, blackboards etc. It is our intention to continue a relationship with this school for our children and to continue to add at least one more grade (classroom) per year, possibly complete the whole school in short order”.

We, at Caulfeild, are fortunate to have a parent such as Sharon who through example shows how each and every one of the families at our school can make a difference. For more information or to make a contribution, please visit littlefeetprojects.com
