Caulfeild Community Service

Our SISTER SCHOOL, Florence Nightingale greatly appreciates the Christmas Drive we do each year. This year the collection dates will be December 10, 11 and 12th and once again we ask that you bring non perishable goods and unwrapped new toys. A notice will go home soon to tell you what your classroom’s designation is.

The SANTA SALE will take place on Friday, December 7th. The “Grade 6/7 Community Outreach Committee” organizes this event with the help of Jeannie and Ms. Syer and each year researches different charities and then decides where the proceeds of this sale should go. After careful deliberation, they have decided that this year 50% will go to the North Shore Outlook Emergency Services (a shelter for adults and kids) and 50% will go to “Make a Wish Foundation”. Who’s on the Community Service Team? This year we have the following students: Kelsey M, Ali B, Emma N, Carmen R, Ian B, Lauren L, Karsten V, Anna I, Oliva L, Amy J, Kayla G, Sophie J, Bridget I, Marc Daniel J. Way to go team! For more information, please click on “Missing Forms”

FOSTER CHILD –The students (Community Outreach Committee) decided that the proceeds from the Santa Sale a few years ago should go towards a Foster Child. To that end we adopted a foster child by the name of Hazel Matasva and the Santa Sale raised enough funds to “foster” her for 3 years! We’re sure most of you have seen her beautiful picture and the information about her in our hallway by the front entrance. If not, take a look next time you’re in the school!

SANDWICH MAKING – each division takes turns (older divisions with their younger buddy classes) making literally hundreds of sandwiches each month to give to Sisters of Atonement, an organization that feeds the homeless. Elisha K coordinates this project and Pam F delivers the food each month. For more info or to help, please contact Elisha at ……

TERRY FOX RUN FOR CANCER – It’s become an annual tradition for the entire school population to run the perimeter of the school in honour of Terry Fox and to fundraise for cancer. For those of you who have never participated, please mark it on your calendar for next September. There is always a beautiful ceremony and some wonderful symbolic moments during this event.

BC CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL – Kayla G, a Grade 7 student, has taken the initiative to sell bracelets and fundraise for the hospital, a cause that is true to her heart. Please click on “school newsletter” for more details and Kayla’s beautifully written letter.

GRADE 6/7 COMMUNITY SERVICE TEAM – are constantly fundraising for many causes. They are currently working on the Santa Sale (see above) and have had a Bake Sale for Leukemia to support Sophie. Please stay tuned for future events!
